This is a participation rubric intended for use during class time which allows teachers to properly assess the level of effective and meaningful participation for each student.

Audience: Secondary

Audience Language Proficiency: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced

Duration: No time constraints

Objective:

Assessment 

Type of Assessment Tool: This is a rubric that may be used by the teacher only, but it also may be effective for students to assess themselves and/or their peers.
Area to be Assessed: Listening, Other, Speaking
Area to be Assessed Other: Participation, attention, meaningful discussion, pair work, interaction, preparation
Assessment Procedure: Teachers are free to utilize this rubric to fit their situation.  The idea is to raise the bar in terms of getting students to meaningfully engage in class.  It could be used at the beginning of a course to set the tone, and it could be used every single class to fulfill a participation grade for the course.
