Materials And Technology:

While we're used to Direct Speech in written form, Reported Speech (aka Indirect Speech) is more common in spoken English.  This video goes through 3 steps to get from Direct Speech to Reported Speech.

Here's a summary:

  1. Get rid of the quotation marks and comma, and insert 'that' after the word 'said'
  2. Backshift the verb (make it more past)
  3. Change the point-of-view words (certain pronouns, determiners, and adverbs) to fit the new context.
