Asking for Clarification

This lesson was taught in the week when community was the theme. Before this lesson, the students learned about interjections, asking the way, and giving directions. After being exposed to too many expressions, this class was used to facilitate internalizing of giving directions and introducing asking for clarification.

Audience Language Proficiency: Intermediate

Duration: 60 minutes

Materials And Technology:

Projector, PowerPoint, a set of two different colored paper for each student, internet connection

Objective:
  • Asking for clarification.

Outcome:
  • Students will be able to understand when others ask for clarification.
  • Students will be able to generate clarification questions to learn new information, and to ask for explanation and repetition.
  • Students will be able to hear the difference between /v/ and /b/, and to correct themselves

Procedure: 
When the teacher teaches the expressions, emphasize the intonation.

It would be nice if there was an assistant to help model.
Differentiation: 
The pronunciation part can be taken out as a separate classroom activity.
