Featured Panel: Maryland’s Credit for All Language Learning (CALL) Act
22 July | 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. | TESOL Offices
Join us in person to hear presentations from panelists about Maryland's Credit for All Language Learning (CALL) Act. Attendees will learn about the process of creating and passing the CALL Act, a law promoting more equitable treatment of English learners in Maryland colleges, and learn from an example of advocacy success.
This panel brings together stakeholders who played various roles and had various responsibilities throughout the passage of the CALL Act. Planned panelists include community college students and faculty who initiated the process, faculty members from other state-wide institutions, leaders from teacher associations and unions, lobbyists working in Annapolis for change, policymakers who were central in sponsoring the bill, and media representatives who highlighted the need for such change in their outlets.
Highlighting the practical undertakings of such a feat, panelists will outline the importance of building a coalition with various levels of engagement, where all participants draw from and build off of each other’s strengths.
This is an interactive session! Attendees will be invited to ask questions and provide comments throughout the panel presentation. Following the presentation, attendees will be able to chat with different stakeholders about their roles in getting the CALL Act passed.
