The Serial Publications Committee acts as the agent of the Board of Directors to ensure that all of TESOL's serial publications maintain the highest professional standards and meet the needs of their readers. Its main activities include: (1) establishing the mission for each serial publication and ensuring that each publication addresses its mission; (2) overseeing the professional content of each serial publication; (3) establishing and implementing procedures for evaluation of editors' work and of the publications themselves; (4) establishing and implementing procedures for editorial searches.
ActivitiesThe committee establishes the mission for each serial publication and represents these missions to the publications' respective editors. It maintains oversight of the professional content of the serial publications. Members establish and maintain procedures and materials for the evaluation of editors' editorial work and publication management. Committee members also establish, maintain, and refine procedures for editorial searches.
ResponsibilitiesCommittee members are expected to attend the annual convention and participate in all committee sessions. Members must also participate in monthly conference calls that deal with timely matters related to the review of publications and to editor searches. Members also undertake specific assignments to write or gather documents pertaining to the evaluation of publications or to editor searches.
QualificationsCommittee members should represent various program levels in the field and be knowledgeable about TESOL serial publications and other professional journals in the field. Prior experience as an editor, a member of an editorial advisory board, or a contributor to a professional journal is not required but would be helpful.
